Abode’s new Iota security device combines an HD security camera with a built-in gateway that can connect to several other smart home security devices, allowing for a fairly robust range of home surveillance options. The Iota is HomeKit compatible, so it can be integrated into an existing configuration, but the Abode app also offers native app support for Nest and Ecobee devices as well as local, direct integration with Philips Hue and LifX, making the Iota A component is useful both as a stand-alone device or as the heart of a smart home security device. The two-way voice control offers the possibility to monitor connected devices and also to issue commands.
Integrated Wi-Fi means that live video from the camera can be accessed at any time via the Abode website, its app or the Apple Home app regardless of the security plan selected. Video clips can also be set to be recorded for other events, such as When the door is opened, and alerts can also be set for these events to keep owners informed of the comings and goings at home. Infrared LEDs provide night vision, and a battery backup can provide more than 10 hours of functionality in the event of a power failure. However, if the internet goes down, the device cannot be accessed remotely unless users choose to plan on cellular backup of $ 10 per month. A $ 30 per month plan is also available for users who want professional surveillance, but the company also offers three or seven day plans for quick vacations and trips. The Iota will be available in the first quarter of 2018 and is expected to cost $ 329.
