Avalanche scores seven goals in their third game in a row, defeating Red Wings

DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche scored seven goals in their third game in a row in their 7-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday at Ball Arena.

The Avalanche are the first NHL team to score seven or more goals in three straight games since the Pittsburgh Penguins November 4-10, 1995.

“The boys move well and shoot well, they hit the net quite a bit,” said Avalanche coach Jared Bednar. “The puck decisions in the offensive zone were much better. There is a lot of activity, it is difficult to cover and that starts for me with our backend. That with the movement and the puck protection with our strikers was difficult to handle.”

André Burakowski scored two goals, Devon Toews had three assists, and Darcy Kümper made 37 saves for Colorado (15-7-2), who have won six home games in a row.

“I think we’re just hungry online,” said Burakovsky. “We put pucks there, we talk a lot about shooting and smashing the net and wanting to put bodies there. I think we’ve done pretty well lately. We just want to keep doing this.”

Colorado won 7-5 at the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday and 7-3 on Wednesday at the New York Rangers.

“The crazy thing is we haven’t played our best hockey,” Toews said. “I think through our space we understand that and we see that. We see progress and it won’t change in a day, it won’t change in a game. Just in work and we’re working on it.” . “

Filip Hronek had a goal and an assist, and Thomas Greiss allowed three goals out of seven shots before he was replaced by Alex Nedeljkovic (36 saves) at 10:49 am of the first third for Detroit (13-12-3), who have lost three in a row after a winning streak of five games.

“This team will likely test where you are defensive, probably more than any other team in the league,” said Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill. “They are as good offensively as any other team in the league, both in their rush and in theirs [offensive] Zone. And of course we have to get better.

“It was a litmus test for us on the defensive and we have to grow. We have to get better. They are very good when there is a shootout like this and we can’t let that happen.”

The Avalanche took a 1-0 lead with 5:01 in the first period when JT Compher tipped Toews’ point shot. Compher had missed eleven games with an upper body injury.

Burakovsky scored to make it 2-0 at 7:10 with a shot from the right after a pass from Alex Newhook.

“It’s always nice to make a small contribution to the board,” said Burakovsky. “I’ve found the end of the net for a couple of games so I think I’m creative and it’s always nice to win.”

Darren Helm increased the lead to 3-0 at 10:49 a.m. after an outlier after a pass from Nicolas Aube-Kubel. Helm signed a one-year contract on July 29, after spending his first 14 NHL seasons with Detroit.

“You always want to see the guys score goals, of course, but to do that in your first game against your old team is great,” said Burakowski. “Really happy for him.”

Vladislav Namestnikov cut it to 3-1 at 19:07, convert Pius SuterCross-ice-pass at a 2-on-1 for his 100th NHL goal.

Joe Veleno made the 3: 2 to 3:21 of the second third with a backhand that went to the net.

Nathan MacKinnon increased the lead to 4: 2 at 3:59 with a one-timer from the left point, Burakovsky made it with a backhand after a pass to 5: 2 at 4:22, and Samuel Girard made it 6-2 at 7:33 am when he shot the glove side out of the slot.

Detroit closed at 13:34 6: 3 after a short shot from the left by Hronek on a power play.

Cale Makar scored an empty goal for the 7-3 final at 3:30 p.m. of the third period.

“We’re looking for answers,” Red Wings continued Dylan Larkin said. “It’s not uncommon to look around the league and see that everyone has great home records. The fans are back in the building, it’s exciting to be home to the crowd. “

Bednar didn’t have an update on the Colorado forward Gabriel Landeskogwho suffered a lower body injury in the second third. He had an assist to expand his point streak to an NHL career high of 10 games (three goals, 10 assists).
