Yesterday marked the 13th birthday of the Bitcoin (BTC) whitepaper, a monumental moment in the history of cryptocurrency (and the world).
The white paper arrived in the inboxes of a cryptography mailing list hosted by Metzdow at around 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time. In the email maintained by the Nakamato Institute, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, wrote, “I have been working on a new electronic money system that is completely peer-to-peer, with no trusted third parties.”
The rest, as they say, is history.
Bitcoin was officially launched on January 3, 2009. Today Bitcoin has hundreds of millions of users worldwide. The cryptocurrency markets also seem to be in a celebratory mood. Bitcoin itself is up two percent in the past 24 hours to just over Β£ 62,000, while Ethereum is also up 1.5 percent to just over $ 4,300. Solana (SOL) and Shiba (SHIB) are the big winners of the day, both up around 11 percent since yesterday morning.
Looking ahead to the week ahead, Wednesday’s Fed meeting is widely expected to see policy makers announce plans to cut the $ 120 billion monthly purchases made 18 months ago as part of measures to protect the economy from COVID were introduced.
An increased willingness to take risks on the financial markets is ascribed to the measures. The Bank of England will also make an interest rate decision on Thursday, with an increase expected given rising inflation.
