Champs Finding a Way
Without injured first-line forwards Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog along with some other key contributors, this is not the same Colorado Avalanche team that lifted Lord Stanley’s Cup over their heads at the end of the 2021-22 season. However, Colorado is still managing to pick up points with four wins in the last five games.
The Montreal Canadiens just snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 win in overtime against Arizona with Mike Hoffman scoring the game-winning goal.
Montreal has had better results on the road (8-6-2) than at home (7-9-0). However, Colorado is 8-5-2 at home.
According to the NHL playoff odds, the Avalanche (+550) still have the best odds to win the Stanley Cup. The Canadiens are well back at +50000.
Let’s check the latest NHL odds, stats, injury reports and NHL lines for Canadiens vs Avalanche. We’ve plenty of NHL betting odds for you to consider.
Caufield Continuing to Connect
The Montreal Canadiens are closer to being in last place in the Atlantic Division than they are to playoff position.
Winger Cole Caufield is doing everything in his power to change that. Caufield has seven goals over the last 10 games. Two of those goals have come on the power play and five are at even strength.
Montreal is 3-2-1 when Caufield has a goal and 1-3 when he fails to score during that stretch, so that is putting a rather large burden on Caufield and his line to deliver. It is interesting that one of the losses came during Caufield’s lone two-goal game in December.
He has five of Montreal’s last 15 goals, and of the 17 skaters to play at least seven games during December, 10 have scored one goal or less.
The Las Vegas odds total has gone under in four of Montreal’s last five games.
Goals Hard to Come By
It looks strange to see Colorado ranking 30th out of 32 NHL teams in goals per game during the month of December. However, salary-cap issues and the absence of proven point producers like MacKinnon and Landeskog as well as puck-moving defenseman Bowen Byram has resulted in the Avalanche having issues lighting the lamp.
Colorado is coming off a rare game that was scoreless going into a shootout. Alexandar Georgiev stopped two shots in the shootout after making 26 saves in regulation and overtime to lead the Avalanche to a 1-0 win over the New York Islanders.

Colorado has allowed one goal over the last two games, and winning tight-checking, low-scoring affairs is probably going to be the way the Avalanche have to play until reinforcements arrive.
The NHL betting lines total has gone under in Colorado’s last seven games.
Canadiens vs Avalanche Game Injuries
Canadiens vs Avalanche Head to Head
Colorado has won the last three meetings, with two of them being decided by one goal.
Colorado is 7-3 over the last 10 games against Montreal. However, the Canadiens have better success rates on the power play and the penalty kill during that time.
Defenseman Devon Toews led Colorado with four assists and four points in the two games against Montreal last season. It is not a good sign that two of the three Montreal players with goals against the Avalanche a season ago are no longer with the team.
