Dash Dash World is a unique new kart racing game that lets you drive huge tracks while taking first-person VR footage.
The best way to describe the game is if Mario Kart’s game mechanics were fused with Twisted Metal’s emphasis on vehicle combat.
The game was developed by MotionX Studio, a Bangkok-based game studio that focuses on creating games with virtual reality and augmented reality capabilities. Her previous endeavors include Xalt: Last Stand, a sci-fi co-op shooter, and XPunch, an arcade-style boxing game that uses a real punching bag.
Dash Dash World is the latest iteration of Motion X and features all of the hallmarks of the kart racing genre, including a bright and colorful art style, crazy weapon and track designs, and the usual mechanics for boosting, drawing, and even sliding like in Mario Kart 7.
Since this is a virtual reality game, the players drive in first person and turn the steering wheel with their VR controllers. This is where the struggle comes in; Players can pick up weapons which they must then aim and fire in first person.
This adds a whole new layer to the classic racing genre that players are used to, and even adds an extra layer of strategy and tactics as players have to aim and shoot in real time.
In addition, players can customize their avatars and karts to their hearts’ content. Dash Dash World is currently only available online. An offline single player mode will be available soon.
Dash Dash World is available now for the Oculus Rift, Quest, and Quest 2 with one SteamVR and PSVR version coming soon. Crossplay between platforms is planned as soon as all versions are released.
