Twitter is talking about Dogecoin again, and the reasons for this are multiple. It seems like DOGE never goes out of trend in Twitter town. It can almost be said that Dogecoin owes half of its popularity and influence to Twitter Town and its incessant talks and debates about Dogecoin. This time around, the main reason Dogecoin graces the Twitter trending list is Elon Musk. Well, if your response is, “Why am I not surprised,” then you are not alone. Musk’s support for Dogecoin is no secret. In fact, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO gave DOGE a big boost when he spoke about it in the interview after he was named Times Person of the Year.
The what and why
Dogecoin received a lot of hype after Musk’s interview in which he showed a clear preference for Dogecoin over Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency in the world. He was of the opinion that DOGE has a higher transaction value compared to Bitcoin. And that says a lot indeed. And when it comes from someone like Musk, who has an inexplicable power to influence the markets with mere tweets, it comes up to something. Naturally, Twitter town started talking about Dogecoin, and as always, it hit the trending list.
And as if that weren’t enough, Musk made another announcement on Tuesday that caused a stir in the crypto domain. The Tesla CEO said the company would accept DOGE for goods. While this is being done on a trial basis, it’s a pretty big step in the direction of progress for Dogecoin. This is what Musk said in his tweet, “Tesla is going to buy some merch from Doge and see how it goes.” And the effect of the tweet was clearly noticeable, because DOGE’s price rose by 24 percent after the announcement. Let’s look at the tweet.

While the announcement is a huge win for Dogecoin, it is wise not to get too excited lest it suffer the fate of the world’s largest cryptocurrency. As is well known, Tesla once announced that it would accept Bitcoin for car purchases. The excitement was short-lived, however, as the company stopped accepting Bitcoin due to environmental concerns.
