EOS and Siemens cooperate in the integration and distribution of 3D printing software – 3DPrint.com

In 2016, EOS North America integrated its EOSPRINT software into Siemens’ NX software, starting a long partnership between the two that mainly focuses on the further development and introduction of industrial 3D printing. In 2018, Siemens supplied automation and drive technology for the new EOS M 300 series and P 500 series printers, and the two have now announced that their partnership is growing again. Under this expanded agreement, EOS will integrate and resell Siemens’ AM software solutions with its own printers, unifying the industrialized AM process to reach more profitable AM factories.

This integrated reseller agreement not only improves AM efficiency and profitability, but also provides customers with connectivity to upstream design and downstream production processes, as well as access to construction preparation and optimization.

“With this agreement, EOS and Siemens can significantly improve the efficiency and profitability of the AM factory. Instead of just providing build preparation for a single machine, customers can now use a unified process to transform the design upstream and downstream to achieve high volume AM factory production, ”said Aaron Frankel, Vice President of AM Program for Siemens Digital Industries Software, according to a press release. “This uniform process is crucial for industrialized AM.”

This expanded agreement enables EOS North America to resell products from Siemens’ industrialized AM solution as part of its Xcelerator portfolio, in which all the phrases of AM development are linked by a digital thread – the exact opposite of a so-called dot solution.

“Point solutions introduce time-consuming, error-prone inefficiencies into the AM workflow. Customers often have to pause their process to convert data for different software environments. And the problems with this approach only get worse with every change that is required, ”Frankel explains.

The integration of the NX AM software with the order and process management software EOSPRINT 2 from EOS enables users to generate EOS build files directly in NX and to define, among other things, material, exposure sets and beam offset values.

EOS will integrate its own order and process management software solution EOSPRINT 2 into the Siemens NX software and resell the NX AM build preparation and AM build optimizer software to metal 3D printing customers so that they can optimize and optimize their support structures align their parts better. By combining these two software solutions, EOS customers can access and use all of Siemens’ AM functions, such as:

  • Build process simulation
  • Design validation
  • Materials engineering and durability analysis
  • Product lifecycle management
  • Scheduling and execution
  • Design for additive
  • Performance monitoring
  • Process automation
  • Topology optimization

With the ability to leverage all of these combined capabilities, EOS customers can rest assured that their 3D printed parts are designed “to best achieve their flawless printing goals”.

“The possibility of offering our customers a combination of the AM software from Siemens with EOS machines is an important step towards the industrialization of additive manufacturing for large-scale production. We want to make sure that our customers can print their first part as successfully today as they can their ten thousandth part tomorrow. That means our machines have to go beyond build prep to connect to the entire end-to-end AM process, “said Andrew Das Snow, senior vice president of EOS North America, in a press release. “This new agreement with Siemens will help to achieve this and we look forward to working with Siemens as a reseller of its AM solutions.”

Andrew Snow, senior vice president of EOS North America, said the integration of Siemens software and EOS hardware will help users “print their first parts as successfully today as their 10,000th part tomorrow.” After defining their build strategy in NX, users can also preview the layer-by-layer hatch pattern of their EOS printed parts before generating the files for EOSPRINT.

One example is critical thermal components designer and manufacturer, Sintavia LLC, who recently purchased two M4K-4 3D printers – essentially stretched versions of the EOS M400-4. The company capitalizes on the partnership between EOS and Siemens by developing an end-to-end AM workflow that makes the most of the NX AM build prep and AM build optimizer, as well as the NX AM printer driver for EOSPRINT.

“This move by EOS North America to integrate Siemens’ AM software more closely into its 3D printing systems fits in perfectly with our goal of creating a seamlessly automated digital AM thread from design to production. If we want to make additive manufacturing a truly industrialized process, we need to make sure that the entire workflow is as efficient as possible, ”said Brian Neff, CEO of Sintavia. “A strong technical integration between EOS and Siemens software not only helps with build preparation, optimization and 3D printing, but also enables a closer connection to all other phases of the AM value chain.”

Siemens Digital Industries Software will train the EOS Additive Minds technical advisory team on how to use the NX AM and AM Build Optimizer software under the reseller agreement, and Additive Minds will teach EOS customers how to use Siemens’ AM software solutions . In addition, the companies have already agreed on a framework that offers comprehensive technical support.
