Eos receives Augment3d with the release of Eos v3.0

Eos receives Augment3d with the release of Eos v3.0

ETC has officially released the Eos v3.0 software, which brings powerful three-dimensional programming and augmented reality control to the Eos platform. This update marks the official integration of the highly anticipated Augment3d toolkit into Eos. Augment3d allows users to program moving fixtures with unprecedented speed and ease, visualize their cues in an imported model of their room, and even position lights with one movement of an augmented reality smartphone focus stick. Over 5,000 beta users have tested the software in the past few months, and their feedback has helped create one of the most exciting new Eos feature sets.

The new software runs natively on the latest hardware of the Eos family and can be used with the ETCnomad software on Mac and PC. Teachers, students and those looking to learn the software can download the latest ETCnomad software for free and use the Augment3d programming room to create virtual design projects in offline mode. ETC also created a virtual light lab show file to help students use Augment3d to learn more about lighting.

When the educational potential of Augment3d is perfectly matched to the current moment of distance learning, the long-term professional applications for Augment3d are even more powerful. Augment3d supports over 50 different 3D file extensions for importing event or set models and can easily import a fixture plot using a Vectorworks plug-in. Even without an existing diagram or model, operators can use the Fixture Position Estimation tool to quickly reconstruct the spatial coordinates of moving fixtures from just four focus palettes. Loading into a new tour has never been easier.

As soon as there is a virtual rig, Augment3d offers a variety of new tools that make focusing and cueing a breeze. Operators can position the beam of a moving or static device with a click or touch. Enable stick beam visualization to use focus handles to drag beams into place and then maintain their spacing as you move multiple selected fixtures together. It’s even possible to focus from the spotlight’s perspective to get an electrician’s view. A new ‘Staging Mode’ offers a street music-friendly alternative to ‘Live’ and ‘Blind’, allowing users to preview and edit their looks before recording or playback. A new console staging keycap is available on the ETC website.

ETC’s iRFR and aRFR focus remote apps now also have an exciting new augmented reality “wall” feature. After scanning an AR target placed in the room, users can use a phone’s camera to view and select lights, swipe up or down to control intensity, zoom, and spot beams using Find Me, or using a phone as a pointer stick.

However, the Eos v3.0 update includes more than just Augment3d. The graphical user interface (GUI) has been completely redesigned, including new display management features that allow users to drag and reorder tabs. Additional information has also been added to the Faders, Palettes, Presets and Groups displays. Users working in video applications can now toggle optional reference overlays in the color picker to make it easier to choose camera-friendly colors.

Updates to Magic Sheets include options to create non-interactive, display-only objects or magic sheets, and the ability to change the object type while retaining all other related information. Magic Sheet objects can now also be linked to softkeys, display a color assigned to a specific target macro, or monitor the status of networked relays and timecode clocks. Additional Magic Sheet functions provide improved control of mechanical dowsers and individual cells in a device.

The software also introduces new tools for working with effects, multi-cell devices, device parameters, and more. Eos v3.0 offers more control over “random” effects, allowing users to either create a “real chance” that is different each time, or to listen to different “coincidences” until they find the right one. New controls also add multiple mirrors to the offset selection, invert channel selections when using a jump offset, or use the channel selection order from a group to create an offset pattern. A new graphic shows an animation of the offset pattern applied to the selected channels. A new multi-cell tool makes it easy to create subsets for all cells in a channel, while another new function allows the value of one parameter to be copied to other parameters. Other updates speed up the patching of pixelmaps and the updating of device profiles.

Due to the requirements of the 3D programming environment, Eos v3.0 is not compatible with older Windows XP-based Eos hardware. However, the new software includes an option in the shell that allows the console to be booted into an earlier software version if it is to be used with XP-based hardware.
