- Fold will offer its users a new AR Bitcoin search experience in a partnership with the Pokémon Go manufacturer Niantic.
- Fold users can search for and collect real Bitcoin prices in their area.
- The AR experience will gradually be enabled in the Fold app, and users will be able to log in to be notified when it is live.
The bitcoin reward and payment app Fold has teamed up with Niantic, the company behind Pokémon Go, to introduce an augmented reality (AR) bitcoin earning feature in the Fold app, according to a press release.
“This is the easiest and most fun way to get your first bit of Bitcoin,” said Will Reeves, CEO of Fold. “Anyone can earn Bitcoin and other rewards with our app by exploring the world around them. For us it has always been important to make it easy for everyone to participate in the Bitcoin economy, regardless of education or technical know-how. “
The feature will allow Fold customers to search and collect Bitcoin prices in their area, similar to the experience offered by Niantic’s viral Pokémon Go game. Instead of finding creatures, users can collect real BTC rewards.
“Games always help us push the boundaries of technology and allow us to develop some of our wildest minds, but we see incredible opportunities across multiple categories, including payments,” said Meghan Hughes of Niantic. “Working with Fold, who has always been at the forefront of delivering Bitcoin, is a perfect collaboration for Niantic and a great use case for augmented reality.”
The feature is already live for a small number of Fold users who can access the experience every day, but for a limited time. The company will roll out the feature more widely in the future, and Fold Visa debit card holders will enjoy special rewards and features that will increase their revenue in the AR experience.
