Half-life: Alyx is free with the purchase of VTC Cosmos Elite from HTC

A copy of Half-Life: Alyx is free with the purchase of HTC’s Vive Cosmos Elite, the latest SteamVR headset (via Upload VR).

HTC and Valve have a historic relationship, and this new partnership pays tribute to their collaboration and causes a stir with the upcoming return to City 17. Building on the original Cosmos hardware, the Cosmos Elite features two SteamVR 1.0 base stations and two of the original Vive controllers as well as SteamVR tracking support instead of six camera inside-out tracking. The headset also comes with a half-life code: Alyx, although those in China, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Singapore, or Ukraine are not eligible for the bundle.

The Cosmos Elite plus Half-Life: Alyx is available now at a price of $ 899. If you haven’t ordered your valve index yet, grabbing a Cosmos Elite might be a wise bet. The Valve Index also includes a copy of Half-Life: Alyx, upgraded SteamVR 2.0 base stations, and the unique Valve Index controllers. However, shipping is extremely delayed. New orders are not expected to run out for eight weeks and the Cosmos Elite offers most of what the index has with a small discount.

“Half-Life means a lot to us and it has been incredibly rewarding to familiarize ourselves with its characters, attitudes and mechanics,” Valve revealed in a recent interview. “There are Half-Life: Alyx team members who have been with Valve since Half-Life 2 and some who are returning to the original Half-Life.” The developer claims Alyx will “return to this world, not the end,” and while the new VR game is a spin-off set prior to Half Life 2: Episode Two, Half-Life 3 may not be as imaginative after all of that.

Half Life: Alyx will be launched on PC VR platforms on March 23, 2020.
