IOTA founder clarifies the exit, “different interests”

A good few weeks have passed for IOTA and its community. The development team not only released the Chrysalis Phase 2 test network to the public in mid-December, but also an alpha version of Stronghold, an open source software library for IOTA Seeds. However, December was not entirely free of controversy for IOTA. David Sønstebø’s sharp exit shaped the news cycle in the first half of the month.

However, it seems that the episode isn’t over yet. Weeks after the IOTA Foundation and David Sønstebø “separated”, Sønstebø has now issued a statement highlighting his side of the story. To question the IOTA Foundation’s claim that “David’s interests and the interests of the IOTA Foundation differ significantly,” Sønstebø said.

“The official justification for my departure was given on the basis that there was a contradiction between my interests and those of the organization. I categorically reject this obviously false, dubiously motivated and defamatory portrayal of myself. “

The former executive director of the IOTA Foundation also announced that he had repeatedly drawn attention to the need to appoint a CEO / COO as IF suffered from a “founder inflammation” case. However, he claimed

“Regrettably and inexplicably, the Board of Directors has repeatedly opposed this, even though I have even mentioned a promising perspective within IF. Unfortunately, this meant that the board of directors’ maturation was hampered. “

Sønstebø also took a look at the emerging role of the IOTA Foundation in the community. He criticized the same thing, adding:

“The IOTA Foundation corresponds to the coordinator in many ways. It was designed to support IOTA’s success in the early days, but not to become a centralized authority of IOTA in the long run. The IOTA Foundation is set to become one of many influential entities in the IOTA ecosystem. “

According to Sønstebø, these were the “different interests” that the foundation spoke about in its announcement. It should be noted, however, that the former managing director also quickly established that IOTA is still “fully convinced”. Finally, Sønstebø also assured the members of the IOTA community that the IOTA Foundation is NOT on the verge of bankruptcy.

At the time of writing, the IOTA Foundation hadn’t responded to Sønstebø’s most recent volley.
