Isles Continue Road Trip
The New York Islander and Colorado Avalanche meet in what should be a close and competitive matchup on Monday night. At least, this game seems close and competitive statistically. However, The Islanders’ recent performances don’t necessarily match their season averages, while the Avalanche are playing to their averages and fighting through injuries to major contributors.
We’ll review the stats, trends, scores and odds to find the best bets for Monday’s sports betting ticket and have you read for the 9 pm ET puck drop from Denver.
Let’s check the latest NHL odds, stats, injury reports, and NHL lines for Islanders vs Avalanche. We’ve plenty of NHL betting odds for you to consider.
Islanders Halt Slide
The New York Islanders are coming off a big 5-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday. However, the Islanders had lost the previous three games to the Carolina Hurricanes, Boston Bruins and struggling Arizona Coyotes. Four of the Islanders’ previous five games have hit the over.
The Islanders are now ranked fifth in the Metropolitan Division, with Pittsburgh, the New York Rangers, Carolina, and New Jersey above them in the standings. Notably, the Islanders are 1-6 in the last seven games in Denver.
The Islanders are ranked 14th in the NHL, averaging 3.3 goals per game on 31.3 shots. New York is ranked 10th in goals-against per game, giving up 2.8 goals on 31.9 shots per game. The Islanders’ power play is converting on 20.6% of their chances, ranking New York 21st in the NHL, while the penalty killers are operating at 80.6% and rank 10th in the NHL.
Semyon Varlamov (8-3-1, 2.65 GAA, .919 SV%) started the last game for the Islanders and has swapped starts with Ilya Sorokin for the past eight games. We expect Sorokin (10-10-0, 2.49 GAA, .921 SV%) to start against the Avalanche on Monday night.
Avs Surviving Injuries
The biggest story for the Colorado Avalanche is surviving injuries. Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, Bowen Byram, and Josh Manson will be out of the lineup on Monday night.
Regardless of the injuries, Colorado is fourth in the Central Division while waiting for the reinforcements to arrive. The Avalanche have won three of the last four games, with one of the last five ending with at least a 1.5 goal spread. All five games hit the under. The under is 4-0 in Colorado’s previous four games against Eastern Conference competition.
Colorado is ranked 19th in the NHL, averaging 3.0 goals per game on 32.6 shots while giving up 2.8 goals (ninth in the NHL) on 31.9 shots per game. Injuries are affecting the Avalanche’s scoring and power play. Colorado’s formerly top-ranked powerplay is now ranked fifth and operating at 27.7%. The Avalanche’s penalty killers are ranked 21st, operating at 76.5% efficiency.
Alexandar Georgiev (12-6-2, 2.59 GAA, .920 SV%) has started the last two games for the Avalanche and five of the last seven. Pavel Francouz (4-5-0, 2.80 GAA, .913 SV%) started the other two. We don’t know where Colorado’s goaltending rotation is heading. However, because of the competition, we expect Georgiev to get the start for Colorado.
