There was a time when the Winnipeg Jets were one of the most profitable teams on the NHL betting lines. But after a coaching change and some loose room turbulence, Winnipeg has fallen by the wayside. So it’s not a surprise to see this team as a sizable underdog in Colorado, a place where it has struggled, this Wednesday.
Let’s check the latest NHL odds, stats, injury reports and NHL lines for Jets vs Avalanche. We’ve plenty of NHL betting odds for you to consider.
Jets could be formidable underdogs
Even if the Jets have been grounded as underdogs lately – 2-7 record in their last nine games as one – they still have the makings of a dangerous one. The Jets combine a team with a potentially explosive offense and a Vezina-caliber goaltender. This may be too hollow of a build in the long term, but to pull off the occasional upset, it’s a solid combo.
Winnipeg has won in Colorado only once in its last nine trips. The one win was telling as Winnipeg had to score five goals (seven with two via the empty net) and Connor Hellebuyck had to stop 39 of 43 shots to put Colorado away. Kyle Connor also had a hat trick.
In order for the Jets to beat the Avalanche at home, all their best players need to be on their A-game and Colorado’s netminder will need to have an off game. Winnipeg still got outshot 43-24 in this game and somehow won. But that’s hockey, and that’s why you bet online for an upset.
An Avalanche of Offense
What Stanley Cup hangover? Colorado may have taken a tough loss against Calgary, a top-contending team on the second night of a back-to-back, but it has rolled through the season otherwise. The Avalanche are scoring 4.67 goals per game, which is the second-best in the NHL among teams that have played three or more games.

Nathan MacKinnon is on fire already with a pair of goals and seven points. Valery Nichushkin also has four goals to lead the NHL. Though the caveat here is that two of Colorado’s opponents have been atrocious: Chicago and Minnesota.
But no one will doubt the defending Stanley Cup champions’ goal-scoring prowess. Their issue can be on the other end. Colorado has allowed three or more goals in their last two games. Alexander Georgiev had a solid game against Minnesota, but Colorado did let the wild test him with 39 shots. Colorado will tighten up as the season goes as their offense carries them.

The Avalanche have owned the Jets in recent meetings. Colorado is 7-2-0 in its last 10 games against Winnipeg. It has outscored Winnipeg 41-23 and has a slight advantage on special teams as well. Colorado has also covered the puck line as the favorite in their last two home games against Winnipeg.

Jets vs Avalanche Prediction
At first glance, Colorado appears ready to clean the ice with Winnipeg. The Avalanche are a much more potent team on offense, their defense is significantly better, and Georgiev can play just as effectively as Hellebuyck even if the latter is better on paper. But at the current odds on the sportsbook, we’ll take the underdog shot on Winnipeg.
Hellebuyck is 8-6-4 in his career against Colorado. So there is more than a decent chance that he plays well enough to get Winnipeg at least a point here.
