Recently, Nissan announced that it will launch 13 new and updated models in 18 months. But let’s put the Z-Car aside for now, because there are two that caught our attention: the new look of the Navara and its SUV brother Terra.
In their video we were shown silhouettes of the two, but in one of the last scenes the entire range moves towards the camera. It’s not clear, such as a press photo, but enough detail is shown to give us an idea of what the pickup and SUV might look like.
Starting with the Navara, we can see that it has new headlights with a new LED light signature. We’re guessing there will be a new grill that will likely feature Nissan’s latest take on the “V-Motion” design. It might even come with Patrol with sharper lines and angles in front.
There also appears to be a flatter nose as seen in the side profile screen cap. The rest of the bodywork looks the same, however, as the lip spoiler of the Navara’s tailgate is still in place.
There are more details in the Terra as the video has a good view of the front end. As far as we can see, the headlights have been made slimmer. Like the Navara, it has a new LED light signature to complement these changes. Plus, the grill is much bigger than the one you just see on the street. These thick vertical, V-shaped bars create a four-slatted look. Nissan also added some sort of faux-skid panel to the front, and the entire bumper was redesigned for a more angular design.
With all of these changes to the front, the side profile of the 2021 Terra has been modified slightly. The combination of headlights and grille has resulted in a lower, slightly flatter bonnet. The bulges at the corners are retained, which was one of the distinguishing features of the Terra. The rest of the body appears to be the same, although we expect a few improvements on the back end.
There are currently no interior shots for Terra and Navara. However, there may be some changes to the interior. More technology could be available for both models as well, and we expect an updated version of Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility security suite to be part of the 2021 changes.
Engines are likely to be carried over from the current model. On site, the Terra and Navara are powered by a 2.5 liter turbo diesel engine. In the entry-level versions of the Navara, it develops 163 hp and 403 Nm of torque. For higher-quality versions of the pick-up and all models of the Terra, the same engine produces 190 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Both the current Navara and Terra can be fitted with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic, and the 2021 models could keep those options.
Nissan hasn’t said exactly when the 2021 Terra and Navara will be released. Given that Nissan has set a deadline for all of these new models, we expect these two models to premiere by December 2021 at the latest. One thing is certain, however: the battle for pickup and the midsize SUV of the decade is starting to heat up.
