Yayoi Kusama and Louis Vuitton ended 2022 on a strong note, reuniting for the first time in 10 years for a second iteration of their iconic collaboration. Ahead of the partnership’s global release, Hypebae is taking a closer look at the fashion house’s special pop-up store in Tokyo that opened in celebration of the launch.
In true Kusama fashion, the entire two-story space is covered in the Japanese artist’s recognizable polka dot pattern in her signature yellow color. The interior is heavily inspired by her “Infinity Mirror Rooms” installations with silver spheres taking up the inside of the store in a variety of sizes. At the center of the store is the artist herself reimagined in a gigantic, hyperrealistic sculpture, wearing a striking red bob along with polka-dotted sunglasses and a dress. The mirrored orbs are placed to create Kusama’s take on the LV icon.
Spanning ready-to-wear, accessories, leather goods and fragrances, the Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton collaboration was launched with a campaign shot by Steven Meisel and starring Gisele Bundchen, Liya Kebede, Devon Aoki, Christy Turlington and Anok Yai.
