Navarro Football: Bulldogs face a new test against defensive-minded NEO | Sports

The numbers are more than impressive.

They belong in a video game, but Navarro’s remarkable performance on offense this season has produced only one win and the Bulldogs are 0-2 in the SWJCFC despite the fact that the scoreboard has been lit and the Navarro record book rewritten for the past two weeks.

Ripley’s would take a twofold stance on these numbers: the Bulldogs have amassed 1,110 yards of offensive, including 870 in the air, and scored 88 points in frustrating losses to Tyler (69-57) and last week to the New Mexico Military Institute (39 ). -31).

So – with apologies to Monty Python – “Now for something completely different”, the Dawgs will meet on Saturday night in Miami, Okay, at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

This is a NEO program that makes a living defending and loves taking out Navarro’s Bulldogs who have struggled to score against the Golden Norsemen in recent years.

The Bulldogs have only won five times at Red Robertson Field in Miami and have not won there since 2014. The Bulldogs haven’t scored a touchdown against NEO for two years, lost 10-9 in Miami in 2018 and suffered a 35-3 drubing at Tiger Stadium in 2019. The Tigers defeated NEO 23:20 in the 2020 spring season, breaking a streak of four Play.

Isaiah Robinson had a 160 yard night of his career, scoring twice in the second half to lead the Bulldogs, who turned the game around with a blocked field goal.

There is more good news. As stingy as NEO have been in games against Navarro, consider this: The 2021 Northmen have only scored 10 points in two conference games, losing to Trinity Valley 27-10 and falling to 3rd place at Kilgore 34-0 last week.

NEO only gained 105 yards in Kilgore last week – or the equivalent of a couple of Qua Gray passes for Jeremiah Aaron.

Aaron set a Navarro single-game reception record last week, scooping 10 passes for 276 yards, including a 96-yarder, and now leads the NJCAA with 118.5 yards per game.

Gray scored the third highest total in Navarro history with a 521 yard night against NMNI. He completed 29 of 44 passes and has thrown 870 in the past two weeks – and is now the nation’s number 2 in yards at 1,005 yards in three games and yards per game at 330.5 yards.

Robinson also has a monster season. He’s fourth in the NJCAA in yards per game (124.3) and third in touchdowns (five) for an even offense that could easily go undefeated.

Still, it could be a cold night in the end zone on Saturday in Oklahoma for both teams, but if the Bulldogs win 2-0 they will be happy. It has been an explosive yet frustrating season and there is nothing Navarro would like more than to claim victory on a night when everything will be “something completely different”.
