Netflix makes a documentary about QuadrigaCX Bitcoin saga

Giant A series of future real crime documentaries have been revealed by Netflix. Together with a second season of “Tiger King”, a documentary about one of the most complicated Bitcoin stories to date is in preparation. In 2022 the film “Trust No One: The Hunt For The Crypto King” will be released. It revolves around a number of amateur detectives who started out as Bitcoin investors.

According to Engadget, they are trying to learn more about the mysterious death of crypto exchange founder Gerald Cotten and what happened to the $ 250 million they believe stole from them. Cotten was the creator of QuadrigaCX, which was once the largest cryptocurrency exchange in Canada. He died in December 2018 of complications from Crohn’s disease.

Cotten was the only person who knew the credentials for QuadrigaCX’s offline crypto storage, according to his widow Jennifer Robertson, which meant the digital currency, valued at over CAD 200 million in early 2019, was no longer accessible. According to the article, online detectives found some terrifying information about the incident.

For one thing, Cotten gave Robertson his entire fortune in his will, which he wrote a month before his death. It was also discussed that QuadrigaCX did not have enough cash to pay all of its creditors and that Cotten faked his death and took the money away. After the bankruptcy in 2019, the company ceased operations.

The FBI opened an investigation earlier that year, soliciting information from individuals who had lost money as a result of the Cotten murder and the collapse of QuadrigaCX. It’s unclear whether the documentary will provide solid facts to close the saga, but it should at least draw attention to one of the more intriguing crypto cases in recent years.

Netflix will also start streaming “The Tinder Swindler” in February 2022, a documentary about a scammer posing as a billionaire on the dating app and the women who tried to stop him.
