Bitcoin payment company Fold App is partnering with Niantic to deliver an AR-based crypto hunting experience. This partnership serves the company as a foray into the metaverse of the real world, where people can interact directly with floating virtual currencies around them.
The concept is very similar to the global sensation Pokémon GO, where players have to go outside and look for these items on their phones. In the Fold app, however, the monsters are replaced with bitcoins and other special items.
Fold CEO Will Reeves called this project the funniest and easiest way for someone to earn their first bitcoin. “Anyone can earn Bitcoin and other rewards with our app by exploring the world around them. For us it has always been important to make it easy for everyone to participate in the Bitcoin economy, regardless of education or technical know-how, ”the press release said.
The feature known as “Fold AR” is currently in limited beta access and allows players to open a new block every ten minutes, triggering an explosion of rewards. Players get satoshis, the smallest unit of bitcoin, or extra wheel spins that add bonus rewards on their fold debit card. It’s worth noting that users don’t need a folded card to play the game. However, holders get extra spins and reward boosts.
The pads also contain time extensions and orange pills that provide immunity to any animated shitcoins nearby. These creatures are designed to try and steal your hard earned bitcoins in the game. Sometimes users can also come across a “poison pill” that wipes out your Bitcoin earnings entirely.
The full experience of Fold AR is slated to be released in the next year and will allow individuals to find, trade and even hide bitcoins around them. Over time, crypto traders can also get in touch with the community to host in-game events and provide incentives.
