The seven-seater all-wheel drive Nissan Terra, based on the Navara ute, will not be available in local showrooms anytime soon.
The Nissan Terra is no closer to being rolled out in Australia – in this generation or beyond – as the cost of upgrading to local standards is initially seen as prohibitive.
The Nissan Terra is a seven-seat, all-wheel drive based on the Navara ute that went on sale overseas last year.
It’s a direct rival to other ute-based seven-seat all-wheel drive such as the Isuzu MU-X (D-Max), the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (Triton), the Ford Everest (Ranger), and the Holden Trailblazer (Colorado).
When asked about the future of the Nissan Terra on site, the head of Nissan Australia, Stephen Lester, said: “Currently no update for Terra. There are currently no plans for a launch date for Australia, certainly for the current version and future iterations. It’s still in the background at the moment. “
When asked why it couldn’t easily be adapted to local safety standards, Mr. Lester said, “There are currently several reasons. If we are not in the program from the start, it is very difficult for us to cover investments. The markets that Terra exists in today are very different from ours, and therefore there are also some existing challenges (than) just … importing them. “
