FAQ (Also known as Read This Before You Ask)
Question: What do I need to download this?
Reply: To be able to download this, you need a BitTorrent client. We recommend either qBittorrent or Deluge. Both BitTorrent clients do the job with no ads or hidden surprises.
Once you have the application installed, you can download it from the torrent. Download the torrent file, open it, add it to your torrent program, and the application will do the rest.
Once your download is complete, you can view that version using VLC or Media Player Classic
Question: Are you going to release these on DVDs?
Reply: Sorry, we have no plans to do so.
Question: What do you plan for subtitling next?
Reply: No idea at the moment, but since there’s a lot of untranslated material out there, I’m sure we’ll find something.
Question: Was this series very difficult to translate?
Reply: Yes and no. If a non-native Japanese person were to translate this series themselves, something would likely be lost in the translation or be misinterpreted. Fortunately for our team, we have a wonderful friend and teammate named Taka-chan, who is from Japan and is fluent in both languages. She is, like all of us, a huge Transformer fan and has taken a lot of time over the past year and a half writing and translating each episode. If there is anyone you should thank for translating this series, it is them. In addition to the translation, there was a need to do some research as there are sometimes references to old TV shows and movies in the series and this needed to be explained. All of these cases were recorded in the translator’s notes.
Question: Why are some of the characters’ names different from certain Transformers fan and resource sites, as well as the IDW Beast Wars Sourcebook?
Reply: There are many Transformers fan sites out there that have great resources. Many fans spend a lot of time posting the information so that others can understand / fill in the gaps in many different Transformers series. For all of them, fan sites are not official (and neither are we) about how the characters’ names are spelled. There is also some disagreement about how the IDW Beast Wars Sourcebook was created. and how many fans disagreed with how some of the characters’ names were spelled and their biographies were written as most of the reference material came from a fansite. For example, Colada is written in the IDW source book Cohrada. This is because Ben Yee wrote the character profiles based on an early VHS sub of some episodes almost 20 years ago. After some discussion and a poll on the Allspark forums, it was decided to correct this by using the spelling named after Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar’s second sword (El Cid) Colada. At the end of the day, it is interpreted based on the katakana characters.
Question: I want to customize the subtitles for myself. how do I do that?
Reply: There is a site called MKVToolNix that has various tools for extracting the subtitles. Once you’ve extracted the files, you can edit them using a subtitle program called Aegisub. We also included the fonts we used in the package so they would look the same in your custom authored version. In general, most fan groups like to burn their files or harshly subtitle them into the video to prevent others from using them. However, we don’t follow the same practice and leave ours as soft subtitles so that they can be turned on or off while viewing.
Question: I would like to use your subtitles and translate this show into my native language and publish it publicly. Do you agree for me to do this?
Reply: Absolutely! We ask that you contact us either by PM or on our Facebook page before doing so and provide us with the credit in the subtitles with your publication. The more others can see and enjoy this series in their native language, the better it is for the entire community.
Question: For some reason, it doesn’t look like VLC is using the fonts properly. How can I fix this?
Reply: You can either copy all of the fonts provided in the Tools folder to your C: Windows Fonts Fonts folder, or right-click and install each font in the package. Unfortunately, since we do not use OSX or Linux, we cannot offer any advice on installing these operating systems. However, Google can help you with that
Question: Are you getting compensated somehow?
Reply: No. Just like with Car Robots, Zone, Legends of the Microns and Beast Wars II, we make these projects free and for fans to enjoy not be sold in any form. This series in particular is considered one of the last holy grails among fans and we are excited to finally be able to share it with everyone. We hope everyone will appreciate the hard work and the hundreds of hours that went into it.
Question: I want to ask something that is not covered here.
Reply: Be sure to ask and we will try our best to answer.
