– A 45-year-old snowboarder was killed Sunday after being caught in an avalanche he accidentally triggered, according to the Utah Avalanche Center. The unidentified man was making his way down the Dutch Draw slope in Park City when it triggered the avalanche and was buried 30 meters wide and 3 meters deep in snow, reports NBC News. Summit County’s Sheriff Justin Martinez said rescuers dug him up, but the man couldn’t be rescued, according to the AP.
The Utah Avalanche Center says it will work with avalanche experts from the Park City and Canyons resorts on Monday to investigate the scene. According to the avalanche warning center, the avalanche danger in the Salt Lake area was considerable on the day of the accident. The center says the Conehead area is avalanche prone and was the site of another death in 2012.
