Spy: will the 2021 Nissan Terra update be tested on public roads?

It was May 2018 when Nissan officially launched the Terra for the Philippine market. While it was late for the lucrative 7-seater pickup platform vehicle (PPV) market, it quickly built a reputation and, along with the Navara pickup, became one of the brand’s bestsellers. It then received a humble update for the 2020 model year when it received a new nose, improved infotainment system, and a revamped tailgate design.

Of course, the SUV could use a design update, and it looks like we won’t have to wait long for that. Only recently, images of what appears to be a 2021 Nissan Terra made it to social media. The heavily camouflaged SUV, which was published on a Facebook group called “Terra Club Thailand”, appears to be tested on public roads.

While it may be difficult to see what exactly Nissan did with the Terra, it looks like the SUV is going to have a chunkier-looking exterior. Based on the pictures, the 2021 Terra will have a larger rear bumper, a slightly larger spoiler and a seemingly larger centerpiece for the tailgate.

On the other hand, the doors and fenders could also be tweaked slightly as they both appear to have some fake body panels attached to hide the changes. Finally, it seems that the taillights will have a different look overall.

There are still no pictures of the redesigned front panel of the Terra. However, we have an idea of what it might actually look like. Last May, Nissan announced that it would launch a total of 13 models over the next 18 months. A side profile of the Terra is included in the teaser, and we caught a glimpse of its refreshed face as well.

Based on the shaded silhouette, it looks like it has a patrol-like design with pronounced headlights and more powerful LED daytime running lights. We haven’t seen the V-Motion grille yet, but we won’t be surprised if it has a bigger or more distinctive design.

With only six months to go until the end of 2020, Nissan appears to be doing everything it can to get the Terra for its later launch next year. And with the company already rolling out the Rogue / X-Trail and the Kicks, the next 2021 Terra (or 2021 Navara) could help with Nissan sales amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

After the official debut, we hope that the 2021 PH specification Terra and Navara can be built at Mitsubishi’s Laguna facility.
