The iPhone user loses their life savings on a fake Bitcoin app approved by Apple

Companies always advise their users to only download apps from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to prevent fake apps from getting onto their phones. However, the situation can change if a fake app is approved through a verified app store. Something similar happened to an iPhone user who lost his savings when he downloaded a fake Bitcoin app from the Apple App Store. The user lost at least $ 60,000 during the theft.

According to reports, one iPhone user, Phillipe Christodoulou, chose to check his Bitcoin balance. He looked for an app called Trezor in the App Store. He found an app with a Trezor logo and a green background. With no background checking, he decided to download the app and signed in with his credentials. Just before he realized the app wasn’t real, he was already losing all of his Bitcoin savings.

This fake Trezor app is almost similar in design to the original Trezor app. However, the app maker created this app to deceive Bitcoin owners and rob their savings. The question, however, is how this fake app managed to finish Apple’s verification process. Typically, Apple reviews all apps that are sent to the App Store before they are deployed as an app on the platform.

Apple acknowledged this gaffe, saying that this fake Trezor app told the company that it had nothing to do with cryptocurrency. Rather, it is a cryptography app. It said it will encrypt iPhone files and save passwords.

However, when the app was submitted, it turned into a cryptocurrency app and Apple couldn’t recognize it.

Apple spokesman Fred Sainz said, “User trust is the foundation for setting up the App Store, and we’ve only deepened that commitment over the past few years. One study after another has shown that the App Store is the safest app marketplace in the world. We are constantly working to maintain this standard and to further strengthen the protection of the App Store. In the limited cases where criminals defraud our users, we act quickly against these actors and prevent similar violations in the future. “

Apple has now decided to remove this fake Trezor app from its app store after it was reported multiple times by the original Trezor company. Another fake cryptocurrency app has also been reported to emerge these days after Apple removed the fake Trezor app. However, Apple has also successfully removed this.
