Theta.tv introduces embeds to bring live esports content over the web

Video Delivery Network Theta Labs announced the launch of THETA Live Embed. The turnkey product allows THETA.tv, also known as Sliver, to add esports content to blogs, websites and social media platforms around the clock. All common sports like Fortnite and League of Legends can now be embedded. According to a press release on Gamasutra, the company launched G FUEL as the first official partner to integrate its product.

Theta Live Embed requires little technical effort. Developers add just a few lines of JavaScript to their site. Theta’s developers have seamlessly integrated their product into the infrastructure of each site.

What is theta

Theta is an ever-evolving blockchain designed for peer-to-peer streaming (P2P). Basically, blockchain technology is the basis of the cryptocurrency. Blockchain technology enables the distribution of digital information over networks without copying this data. The data is stored in several locations and is continuously updated. In this way, Theta.tv wants to become a “decentralized network for the distribution of video content (CDN)”, which allows any user with excess bandwidth to become distribution nodes.

Streaming platforms like Twitch and Theta rely heavily on CDNs to distribute videos to users. When a company like YouTube or Twitch accepts the high price of managing the bandwidth and nodes associated with CDNs, the revenue share for the best content creators decreases. Theta’s solution to this problem is to reward users for contributing their bandwidth and participating in Sliver’s blockchain. Users earn a currency called “TFUEL” every minute they watch streams on the site. Viewers spend money by donating to streamers as currency in their shop and buying subscriptions to streamer websites.

Future of streaming

Theta’s team is aware that Sliver’s platform has several weaknesses. For example, if not enough miners or users generate TFUEL, the video quality for streams suffers. Additionally, there are some users who may not be willing to join Theta’s structure to watch streams in their spare time. Despite these concerns, Theta has an active and experienced team that develops, advises and invests in the company.

Steve Chen, YouTube Co-Founder and Theta Advisor, told TokenDaily, “One of our biggest challenges was the high cost of having videos available in different parts of the world. I look forward to being part of the next evolution in streaming space and helping Theta build a peer-to-peer network that offers improved video delivery at a lower cost. “
