While Tron Club sounds more like a weekly get-together of Tron enthusiasts who love to dress up in unitards and make rushing noises while pretending to drive invisible Lightcycles, it’s actually a service that circuits into your home sends. Why? Because electronics should be learned, that’s why.
As hardware becomes easier to build and understand, programmers are at a loss. While we can all write a bit of Python in a pinch, putting together a circuit is a whole different matter. The Tron Club packages can help you learn how to build things like a pulsed piezo buzzer, the uses of which are limited but still interesting and could be used in other projects down the line.
I am not optimistic about educational toys for children. I think these things, which are essentially updated versions of the classic electronics kits, aren’t interesting enough to grab attention. However, I think that both kids and adults can learn from Arduino and Raspberry Pi kits, while adults in particular can learn to use kits like the one from Tron-Club.
The service costs € 14 or € 150 per month (plus shipping). You can cancel at any time.
Ultimately, electronics is all about making loud noises and magic smoke so it’s great to see that Tron-Club gives us little fun learning electronics. Just don’t take out your eyes.
