A couple from Purcellville, Virginia were sentenced to jail after admitting to embezzling nearly a quarter of a million dollars from a service fraternity.
Jeanine Henderson Arnett, 44, and her husband Diallo Arnett, 47, were convicted Tuesday after pleading guilty of bank fraud in April. She was sentenced to 16 months; he was sentenced to a year and a day. You will also need to make a refund.
Henderson Arnett was the executive director of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, a century-old student service association that works with organizations to address food insecurity, domestic violence, educational needs, and more. Delta Sigma Theta announced it in 2019 and learned of the embezzlement a month later.
Court documents say she used Delta Sigma Theta money for personal items and expenses between 2017 and 2019 and transferred more than $ 14,000 to her own account.
“While Delta Sigma Theta and its members were subscribing to a public service, the defendants were indebted to a personal gain by stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars to use for their own amusement,” Acting US Attorney Channing Phillips said when the two pleaded guilty in April.
