The crypto ball was full of gags on April Fool’s Day, mostly from rival clans digging each other out. What would have been more serious is a rigged pump for an altcoin, and it just so happens that this appears to have occurred with the crypto clown Dogecoin.
A seedy pump for Doge?
After a month, DOGE started a big spike yesterday, propelling its price to a new 2019 high of $ 0.00253 (60 satoshis). The 20% pump increased the daily volume from USD 20 million to USD 50 million, with Gate.io and ZB.com accounting for the largest part. It’s the biggest single move for Dogecoin since mid-December, but was it a coincidence that came on April 1st?

The Twitter feed for the 2013 forked Litecoin offshoot is populated, as usual, by childlike memes involving Shiba Inu dogs, moons, and lambos with very little substance, like the coin itself. The only notable tweet recently was one who admitted the project needed a CEO, but the contestants are comedy;

The Reddit feed was even more skeptical, despite some with comments including:
“Do you have any idea what is happening? April joke? Pump and dump? “…” I made money, joke or not, I made money “…” Pump and dump. 100%. In this submarine there have been signs for weeks that this was planned in an emergency. And here it is. ” . “…” Please tell me this is not a sick Doge Coin April Fool’s joke. “
The Community Discord Admin and Dogecoin Core Dev ‘Migidragon’ confirmed the Pump and Dump;
“It’s a planned, coordinated pump. It has been discussed and “prepared” here in the last few weeks. Expect a dump soon. “
The project’s only semi-serious announcement was that the Blockchain Education Network (BEN), Dogen’s educational arm, was renamed to focus on this coin only.

So it looks like the clown of the crypto industry is still fooling around, but 20% is still no joke if your altcoin becomes the top performer in the top 100, if only for a very short time.

The last laugh, today at least, was on Ethereum as Tron made a 24-hour profit of over 9% while ETH didn’t move. Markets in general are still on the up and most altcoins are in the green if we leave the pumps and pranks behind and get on with things in the land of crypto.
