Yayoi Kusama’s yellow sculpture “Pumpkin” on the island of Naoshima in Japan was knocked over by Typhoon Lupit on August 9th.
Local residents documented the removal of Kusama’s artwork from the pier, which has not left its place since its installation in 1994. As can be seen in a video, the sculpture tipped over and was thrown onto the bank by the strong waves. According to the Benesse Art Site Naoshima art exhibition, the sculpture is actually damaged and has been brought for restoration.
The art exhibition will inform the public via their Twitter account as soon as the “Pumpkin” sculpture has been repaired and when it will return to the pier.
